New £30m accommodation scheme for Clyde Trident base

More than £30m is to be spent upgrading accommodation facilities for workers at the Faslane Naval base on the Clyde. The site, which is home to the Trident nuclear submarine fleet, supports 6,700 military and civilian jobs. This is expected to increase to 8,200 by 2022. The investment was announced by Defence Minister Dr Andrew Murrison during a visit to Scotland. He described the funding as a "clear and visible sign" of the UK government's commitment to the base. The Ministry of Defence has awarded Carillion the £31.5m contract to build about 600 new bed spaces at HM Naval Base on the Clyde.<br />
