Ex-Scottish Labour MP is poised to give up his UK passport

A former Scottish Labour MP is poised to give up his UK passport to take a top job with the Pakistani government.  Mohammad Sarwar, who became Britain's first Muslim MP in 1997, is understood to have been recruited for a senior post in the new administration of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. The news was reported in the Pakistan-based News International newspaper on Friday and confirmed to STV News by a source close to Mr Sarwar. It is understood Mr Sarwar will be travelling to Pakistan next week when the exact nature of his role is expected to be clarified. He will give up his British citizenship in accordance with laws in Pakistan that bar dual nationals from holding certain high-ranking jobs.<br />
